Overview

The Technical Writer is responsible for creating clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for software-based solutions to various business processes within a larger program. This role requires a strong understanding of technical concepts and the ability to translate complex information into easily understandable language. Depending on the candidate's qualifications and the project's needs, this position may be part-time and/or contract-based.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain a variety of technical documentation, including runbooks, system documentation, training materials, user guides, and process flows
  • Editing and Proofreading: Review and edit technical documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity
  • Compliance: Ensure that technical documentation adheres to relevant standards, regulations, and guidelines, including FISMA and FEDRAMP, to support process and audit requirements
  • Collaboration: Work closely with subject matter experts, technical and operational teams, and the training team to gather information, ensure the accuracy of documentation, and contribute to the development of training materials
  • Project Planning: Contribute to project planning and execution by providing timely and accurate work estimates and deliverables

Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must obtain a moderate-risk or high-risk Public Trust clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communication, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer, preferably in a government contracting environment
  • Strong understanding of software application technical concepts and the ability to translate complex information into clear and concise language
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with FISMA and FEDRAMP compliance requirements
  • Experience with technical writing tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Visio, Adobe Acrobat)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialty certifications in software-related technical writing or documentation
